Reflection: Robin Sharma - Revised

The author views success as a means for a peaceful life. He believes that we can be successful by doing our best rather than competing with each other. He claims that we are so preoccupied with competition that we are more focused on trying to succeed than succeeding. He compares us to circus animals by saying that we get obsessed with outperforming others. I agree with the author on his ideas regarding success. We should do our best to succeed but we shouldn't be jealous of others' success; instead, we should cooperate with each other. For example, the main character in the book says that he is going to "build his career based not on what he can get from others but what he can be for others". There will always be someone who is better than you. For instance, during my high school years, I was probably one of the best students in English. However, when I entered the university exams, there were many students who were ahead of me. One of the characters in the books accordingly states that we are conditioned to competition from childhood, and that we are conditioned to be best in our classes, get the best grades, be at the top in sports etc. The writer proposes a way to be the best, namely a leader: Not by tracking what the crowd does, but by loving and caring about everyone rather than fearing failure. To summarize, we should do our best, but not be jealous of others' success. All the human beings are made out of the same cloth.
